Celebrating 6 Years!
Join us for our 6th annual summer camp in Lincoln Woods State Park! Studio Playground teaches acting classes based in movement & physical theater. Classes explore the benefits of laughter through movement, performance & playful improvisation. Our summer camp embodies the same principles!
Students ages 5-11 have a fun-filled week of theater games, arts and crafts, and outdoor activities. In our Craft & Create program, students explore multiple aspects of creating a show as they make props and costume pieces to bring original characters to life.
Each week ends with an outdoor performance in Lincoln Woods State Park.
Studio Playground fosters individual growth and empowerment for children in our community using the performing arts.

Does my child need prior acting experience?
Our theatre camp is intended for all levels of experience. Whether this is your child’s first acting class or they have previous experience, our program fosters individual growth and develops at the pace of each group. Studio Playground integrates core concepts in social emotional learning with quality theatre education. We strive to create an environment in which all students feel welcome and accepted.
Are students divided by age group?
Yes, students are divided into groups based on age. There are also larger camp activities that involve students working with members of other groups.
Will kids be outside for the entire day?
Yes! We are 100% outdoors. We take precautions with the heat. Our students' safety and wellness are our primary concerns. The pavilions provide shade covering. We have use of the park’s indoor restrooms near our pavilion. Camp takes place rain or shine unless there is inclement weather.
Lincoln Woods Camp FAQ’s
Will there be relaxed camp activities too?
Absolutely! In addition to playing theater games and learning fundamentals skills for acting, students will have the option to participate in nature walks and recreational activities at planned times throughout the day. Lincoln Woods State Park has a swimming area with a beach and lifeguards. Although we will not explore the water during camp, we encourage families to enjoy the water after pickup. The lifeguards are present until 6pm.
Is there a difference between Week 1, 2, and 3?
Each week of camp is offered invidually. Students can register for multiple weeks. You have the option to sign up for Week 1, Week 2, or Week 3 when you register for camp. You may sign up for multiple weeks if your child would like to attend.
While the structure and activities are similar, each week ends with a unique performance for friends and family.
What should my child bring to camp?
We ask that each student bring a personal water bottle, snack, and sunscreen. Students should also bring a non-refrigerated, nut-free, bagged lunch. Studio Playground will provide water throughout the day and coolers to store lunches.
What safety precautions are you taking?
Students are encouraged to stay hydrated and reapply sunscreen throughout the day. During inclement weather, including extreme heat, camp is delayed or canceled for the day.
We consult Open Evidence and use the Heat Index from the National Weather Service. Counselors carefully monitor students for symptoms of heat exhaustion, which include extreme sweating or thirst, cessation of sweating, dizziness, headache, nausea, muscle pains, and confusion. If a child experiences any of these symptoms, we will immediately remove them from the activity and begin our rapid cooling plan; children will be provided with cold water, ice, cold towels, and a misting fan. If symptoms persist for longer than 20 minutes, we will call the child's emergency contact and ask that they be picked up from camp immediately.
If the forecast Heat Index taken the night before camp exceeds 96° (how "hot it feels" based on temperature and humidity), camp will be cancelled. We monitor the Heat Index throughout the day. Camp will end early if the Heat Index rises above 96°.
In the event that camp is cancelled, we will send an email the night before to inform you. If the Heat Index exceeds 96° during camp, we will send an email announcing an early pickup and ask that you pick up your child as soon as possible.
We recommend acclimating your child to heat conditions by:
Spending 1-2 hours per day playing outside during the week prior to attending camp
Arriving to camp fully hydrated
Sending children to camp with salty snacks to replenish sodium lost through sweat
If you believe your child is severely susceptible to heat disorders or may be at high risk for heat exhaustion, we recommend they stay home from camp when temperatures exceed 90°.
We are taking the following precautions:
We use the National Weather Service's local Heat Index to determine whether camp should be cancelled or end early. According to Wilderness Medical Society (2024), "The Heat Index combines air temperature and humidity to reflect how "hot it feels." Higher humidity makes it harder for sweat to evaporate, so the body overheats more easily".
Our rapid cooling plan includes providing cold water, shade, ice, cold towels, and a misting fan. If an emergency occurs, we will provide a kiddie pool filled with ice and water, and emergency services will be called.
The night before camp, if the forecast Heat Index exceeds 96° camp will be cancelled for the following day.
We will monitor the Heat Index throughout the day. If the Heat Index becomes dangerous as the day progresses, camp will end early for the day.
When temperatures rise above 90°, all students remain under shaded pavilions between 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.; lower-exertion activities will take place during this time. We implement a work-rest cycle; every 20 minutes of activity is followed by 20 minutes of rest.
We will provide portable misting fans, which will reduce the risk of overheating.
What does the performance consist of?
Each week students work in small groups to create an original show. The performance occurs after pickup on Friday. Students create characters under the guidance of our teaching artists. Each student has a voice in the creative process as our staff fosters collaboration and teamwork.
Will there by theme days?
Of course! Theme days include water day, costume day, and camp olympics! A schedule of theme days is provided in advance.
