Class Description
Not an experienced dancer? No worries! This class is for everyone, whether it’s their first movement class or they have experience as an actor or dancer. Students explore multiple styles of dance in a supportive environment.
There is an invited showcase for friends and family during the last class giving students an opportunity to share their work. Dance Party is instructed by Alexander Crespo-Rosario. Students of all abilities are encouraged to join.
Curriculum Includes
Build a foundational vocabulary for movement
Create movement phrases
Learn dance combinations from multiple styles, including traditional musical theater.
Perform in a showcase for friends & family
Instruction
Alexander Crespo-Rosario II (he/him) is a Native Taino, born in Puerto Rico (Boríken). He is a graduate of Rhode Island College, experienced movement teacher, and accomplished professional dancer, actor & singer. As an Artistic Associate for Studio Playground, Crepso has led programs for students of all ages since 2021.
He began his career as a B-boy representing the All-City Rockers hip-hop crew and has continued to expand his skills through other artistic forms. Theatre credits include Trinity Rep: Ariel, La Tempestad, Phaedra/Cagelle, La Cage aux Folles,Carlos, La Broa’ (Broad Street), Stan, Becky Nurse of Salem, Tobias Ragg, Sweeney Todd, u/s Fezziwig/Benedict, A Christmas Carol; Teatro en El Verano: La Mancha; Burbage Theatre Company: WITCH, JUNK.
Crespo currently resides in Providence, Rhode Island as an assistant teacher at PVD Prep Charter School, an artistic associate at Studio Playground, and a dance captain/counselor with Trinity Rep’s YASI summer program.
Crespo is one of the first recipients of the Miranda Scholarship, an award given by Lin-Manuel Miranda and the Miranda Family for artists of color who have shown, “exceptional passion, drive, and unique points of view in various artistic mediums.” As an active artist, his work focuses on connection and emotional range through theatre and dance. Lin-Manuel Miranda Family Fellow, Forman Scholarship Recipient in Dance, Certificate of Merit: Outstanding Ensemble Member. Education: BFA, Rhode Island College.
Safety Guidlines
Please note this policy is subject to change. Wearing a mask is optional for staff and students. Class size is limited. Staff keep daily attendance records for contact tracing, provide hand sanitizer, and encourage hand hygiene. Any student who has a fever or who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 is advised not attend class.
